About Kartapay

Kartapay is a UK card-payments and business-finance comparison platform operated by Best Business Loans Ltd (UK Companies House registration 16833937), registered at Cust Hall, Toppesfield, Halstead, Essex CO9 4LL. It serves UK SME owners whose first business language is Polish or Romanian by publishing native-language guides at /pl/ and /ro/, then introducing them to UK-licensed card-payment acquirers and UK SME finance lenders. The product content lives in Polish and Romanian. This English page explains the company, the editorial method, and the commission model.

Kartapay is a UK card-payments and business-finance comparison platform built natively in Polish and Romanian for UK SME owners whose first business language is not English. The English page you are reading explains who we are, why we exist, and how we make money. The actual product content lives at /pl/ and /ro/.

The company

Kartapay is operated by Best Business Loans Ltd, a UK private limited company registered at Companies House under number 16833937. Registered office: Cust Hall, Toppesfield, Halstead, Essex CO9 4LL. The same company operates four other sites in the UK SME finance and payments space:

The legal entity, the acquirer panel, the lender panel, and the contracts are identical across all five sites. The differentiator on Kartapay is the language and the angle.

Why this site exists

According to the 2021 UK Census, around 743,000 Polish-born and 539,000 Romanian-born people live in the UK. That is the largest non-UK-born community after India, and it includes a huge concentration of small business owners running shops, hospitality, beauty, transport, cleaning, car-wash and construction firms across the country.

Most existing UK business-comparison content is English-only. Most existing Polish-language and Romanian-language business content is for the home country, where the regulator, the acquirers, the lenders, the bank-account structure, the credit-scoring system, the VAT regime and the contract law are all different. We are the bridge between the two.

Concretely: a Polish-speaking shop owner in Slough searches "terminal płatniczy bez umowy". The English-language pages from Worldpay or SumUp show up but are in English. The Polish-language results are from polcard.pl or NETOPIA, which are Polish-domestic and don't apply. There is a vacuum. We fill it.

How we make money

We are not a payment processor. We are not a lender. We are an independent comparison and introducer service.

When a reader applies for a card terminal or a business loan through a link on our site, the provider pays us a referral fee on successful onboarding. The referral fee is identical whether the application comes from the English fleet or the Polish or Romanian site, so we have no incentive to push you to a more expensive product. We compare on merit, not on commission.

For payments: SumUp, Square, Zettle, Worldpay, Dojo, takepayments, Barclaycard Smartpay, Lloyds Cardnet, NatWest Tyl, myPOS, Tide, Adyen and Stripe all sit on our panel. We do not have an exclusive deal with any one of them.

For finance: iwoca, Liberis, YouLend, Capify, Funding Circle, Allica, Tide loans, Fleximize, plus the specialist tier (Swiftfund, Bizcap, JPM Capital, Cubefunder, MaxCap) for post-decline cases.

For invoice finance and asset finance: Triver, Bibby, Aldermore, Sonovate, eCapital, Close Brothers, Time Finance.

How we write the content

The Polish and Romanian content is not machine-translated. We use a 3-pass workflow: a first pass with Claude Sonnet 4.6 working from a fixed glossary and style rules, a second adversarial review pass with a different prompt to find errors and awkward phrasing, and a third back-translation pass to verify nothing has drifted in meaning. A native-speaker reviewer then cleans up only the parts all three automated passes flag, plus a spot-check.

Every page declares its last review date and a `nativeReviewed` status. If you spot something wrong, please tell us and we will fix it.

What we do not do

We do not auto-redirect you on browser language. You pick the language, every time. Auto-redirect breaks shared links and is hostile to readers who want to read the English version.

We do not pretend to be a Polish-domestic or Romanian-domestic site. We are explicit on every applicable page that we compare UK acquirers and UK lenders only.

We do not list polcard.pl, NETOPIA, mypos.com/ro-ro, sumup.com/ro-ro, Banca Transilvania or any other domestic-EU operator in our comparisons, because they do not serve UK businesses.

We do not hedge UK commercial lending products with FCA-perimeter warnings on limited-company products, because lending to UK Ltd companies is largely outside the FCA perimeter by design and that is the structure of UK commercial finance, not a flaw worth flagging on every page. Sole-trader products under £25,000 do fall inside the FCA perimeter and we mark those clearly with the standard consumer-credit disclosures.

Editorial and conflicts

Author byline on most pages: Oliver Mackman, Director, Best Business Loans Ltd. Companies House director profile linked from each page footer.

If a referral commission would create a conflict on a specific recommendation, we say so on the page. For example, if a particular acquirer pays us materially more than another, we name both in the comparison, with the higher-paying one not preferenced over the better-priced one for the reader.

Content review cadence: every page declares lastReviewed in its frontmatter. Comparison pages are reviewed quarterly (rates and contract terms change). Brand-review pages are reviewed twice a year unless a provider changes pricing materially in between.
